Overview

Overview

From bulk earthworks to mine-affected water management, MCP Consultants delivers civil scopes that mining operations depend on: built to specification, delivered safely, and managed with the same discipline we bring to project management.

Our civil and structural contracting capability covers overburden dump construction and extension, dams, drainage and water management, haul roads, pads and laydown areas, site preparation, and dust suppression. We understand mine-site conditions in the Bowen and Galilee Basins because that is where we work, week in and week out.

The complication on an operating mine is rarely the earthworks themselves. It is delivering them without interrupting production. Sequencing around live operations, managing haulage interactions, and keeping the work safe where mining and construction share ground is where a civil scope is genuinely won or lost.

Recent delivery includes an overburden dump extension with an integrated mine-affected water dam and drainage system. That is the kind of scope where civil execution and water compliance have to land together, and where delivering both as one package removes the interface risk that comes with splitting them.

What's included

Scope we cover

  • Bulk earthworks
  • Civil and structural contracting
  • Mine-affected water dams
  • Drainage and water management
  • Overburden dump construction and extension
  • Site preparation, trenching and grading
  • Haul roads, pads and laydown areas
  • Dust suppression

How we deliver

From scope to handover

  1. 01

    Survey and scope

Ground conditions, drainage behaviour and access all get assessed up front, because earthworks priced off a drawing alone is earthworks priced to be varied later.

  2. 02

    Plan and document

Volumes, staging, haulage and environmental controls are planned together, with compliance documentation prepared before mobilisation.

  3. 03

    Construct

Delivered around live mining operations, sequenced so production keeps running, under documented safe systems of work.

  4. 04

    Verify and hand over

Levels, compaction and drainage performance are verified against specification, with records handed over for your compliance file.

Where we work

Across the coalfields

Our civil and earthworks capability covers the Bowen Basin coalfields and extends into the Galilee Basin. That includes the operations around Moranbah, Dysart, Coppabella and Middlemount, south through Blackwater, Emerald, Capella and Tieri, and west toward Clermont and the Galilee. Central Queensland ground and weather behave in specific ways, particularly where mine-affected water is involved, and local delivery experience is what keeps a wet season from becoming a variation claim.

Common questions

Before you enquire

Can you work around live mining operations?

Yes, and most of our civil work is delivered that way. Sequencing earthworks against active production is often the harder half of the job, and it is planned in from the start rather than managed reactively.

Do you handle mine-affected water works?

Yes. Mine-affected water dams and drainage are a core scope. It is compliance-critical work, where containment, drainage paths and capacity all have to land to specification, so it needs to be delivered as an integrated package rather than as separate trades.

What size earthworks scopes do you take on?

Small-to-medium civil and infrastructure works, including overburden dump extensions, water infrastructure, pads, roads and laydown areas. We have delivered an overburden dump extension with an integrated water dam and drainage system as a single coordinated package.

Do you cover the environmental and compliance side?

Compliance documentation and environmental controls are planned and prepared as part of the scope, not treated as an afterthought. Specific approvals requirements vary by site and are confirmed during scoping.
