Overview

Overview

MCP provided Civil Superintendent support to Pembroke Resources for the complete reconstruction and upgrade of approximately 50 km of the Daunia Annandale Road corridor, subsequently renamed Barada Barna Road, from October 2022 to March 2024.

The requirement

The existing road was a lighter local road. Olive Downs needed a robust, heavy-vehicle-compliant transport corridor designed to safely accommodate multi-combination mining, supply and support vehicles, built to the required project and mining standards. Where the corridor met state-controlled networks, the interfaces had to incorporate applicable Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) specifications and requirements.

MCP’s role

MCP’s superintendent role supported the delivery of:

  • Major pavement reconstruction
  • Lane widening and shoulder construction
  • Associated road and civil infrastructure, earthworks and drainage
  • Intersections and site interfaces
  • Interfaces to state-controlled networks, including earthworks, final trim and asset intersections built to TMR specification where required

MCP also provided construction oversight and coordination of supporting infrastructure and finishing works, ensuring the completed corridor met the required standards for safety, durability, functionality and long-term operational performance.

The outcome

The greenfield project transformed the existing lighter local road into a heavy-vehicle-compliant corridor serving the mine. Works were delivered to the required project and mining standards, with the TMR-specification interfaces to the state network handled alongside the mine-road scope across an 18-month engagement.

Outcome

A robust, heavy-vehicle-compliant corridor built to the required project and mining standards, with interfaces to state-controlled networks meeting Queensland TMR specifications, superintended through an 18-month engagement.
