Heavy Vehicle Workshop QA, Carmichael

MCP provided Quality Assurance support to Carmichael Mine during the civil construction of the new Heavy Vehicle Workshop and associated warehouse facilities, from January to April 2025.

The requirement

A workshop of this kind is built in sequence: civil works first, then steelwork erection, then the mechanical and structural fit-out. The mechanical and structural teams can only start on a base that has been verified, and that verification lives in the quality records. If the earthworks and concrete lots are not documented and closed out as they are built, the handover stalls and the trades that follow are working on an assumed base rather than a proven one.

MCP’s role

MCP’s role focused on the management, review and close-out of quality documentation for the earthworks and concrete structures, ensuring construction activities were appropriately documented and compliant with project requirements. That meant:

• Reviewing quality records as lots were completed rather than at the end
• Chasing gaps in documentation while the work was still accessible to check
• Systematically closing out construction lots and quality records
• Preparing the civil works package for handover

The outcome

MCP supported the systematic close-out of construction lots and quality records, enabling the successful handover of the civil works and providing a clear transition to the mechanical and structural teams for commencement of steelwork erection and subsequent workshop construction.
