Long Term Tailings & Creek Works, Peak Downs and Saraji

MCP provided professional construction and delivery support across multiple projects at BMA’s Peak Downs and Saraji Mines in the Bowen Basin from May to November 2024.

The requirement

Tailings and water management works on an operating mine are rarely a single package. At Peak Downs the Long Term Tailings (LTT) Project needed its early clearing and grubbing works coordinated and kept on programme, while the diversion of Ripstone Creek, the relocation of its low-flow infrastructure and the construction of the Boomerang Creek levees each had their own scope, sequence and interfaces. All of it had to progress in accordance with project requirements without disrupting production around it.

MCP’s role

• At Peak Downs, MCP managed and monitored the early clearing and grubbing works associated with the Long Term Tailings Project, ensuring works were effectively coordinated and progressed in accordance with project requirements.
• MCP provided project support for the diversion of Ripstone Creek and the relocation of low-flow Ripstone Creek infrastructure.
• MCP supported the construction of the Boomerang Creek levees, coordinating activities, monitoring progress and supporting delivery.

The outcome

Critical mine infrastructure and water management works were coordinated, monitored and supported through to delivery across two operating mines, with the LTT early works and the creek diversion and levee scopes progressed in accordance with project requirements.
