Light Vehicle Workshop, Olive Downs

MCP identified and delivered an opportunity to establish an on-site Light Vehicle Workshop at Olive Downs Mine for Pembroke Resources, providing servicing, maintenance and repair capability for the mine’s light and medium vehicle fleet. The workshop commenced operation in May 2025.

The requirement

Light and medium vehicle maintenance is constant on an operating mine, and where it has to happen off site the cost is rarely just the repair. It is the transport, the vehicle sitting idle waiting for a slot, the coordination overhead of managing external providers, and the loss of control over when a vehicle comes back. For an operation running to a production schedule, that adds up quickly.

The opportunity MCP identified was to bring that capability on site: a purpose-built facility, sized for the fleet it would actually service, capable of supporting routine servicing through to major repairs and component replacement.

MCP’s role

MCP managed the project from concept through design and construction, delivering a purpose-built facility incorporating two four-post vehicle hoists. That covered:

• Identifying and defining the opportunity
• Concept development and design management
• Construction management on site
• Delivery through to an operating workshop

Building on an operating site

The workshop was built on a live mine, which shapes almost every decision on the programme. Access, laydown, traffic interaction with production, and the safety controls governing where construction and mining share ground all had to be planned rather than resolved as they arose.

Work ran under documented safe systems of work, aligned to the site’s safety and health management system.

The outcome

The workshop subsequently supported the servicing and maintenance of a fleet of more than 100 mine vehicles, significantly improving fleet availability and reliability while reducing the costly downtime associated with transporting vehicles off site for repairs. Maintenance capability now lives on site.
